Case

About the Company

The core idea of 1KOMMA5° is that everyone - independent of political decisions - should be able to make their home CO2-neutral while even saving money. To achieve this, 1KOMMA5° invests in acquisitions, aiming to become a one-stop shop for climate-neutral building technology. With its business model, the company seeks to make a significant contribution to achieving the goal of the Paris Climate Agreement - limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

Initial Situation

1KOMMA5° is a CleanTech startup founded in 2021 in Hamburg, specializing in CO2-neutral energy, heating and mobility solutions. With around 80 locations across seven markets and its proprietary Heartbeat AI software, the company connects over 40,000 decentralized systems. To date, 300.000 systems have been installed, saving 14 million tons of CO2. By 2030, the company aims to transition 1.5 million buildings to climate-friendly energy solutions, actively contributing to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Goal

1KOMMA5° aims to launch a household electricity tariff as an energy provider that incorporates the greenhouse gas reduction quota (THG quota), offering price advantages for electric vehicle owners.

Solution

Lumenaza enabled the launch of the tariff with a time-to-market of just two months and, as part of the white-label electricity tariff solution, handles all necessary energy market processes.

The greenhouse gas reduction quota (THG quota) has been used as a political instrument for market-based climate protection in Germany since 2015. Companies that sell greenhouse gas-emitting fuels must compensate for the emissions generated when these fuels are burned. The current quota is 6% and is set to increase to 25% by 2030. To meet this requirement, companies can either reduce their own emissions or purchase THG quota allowances from third parties. Since January 1, 2022, quota trading has also been opened to private individuals, allowing private EV owners to benefit from the THG quota and generate additional earnings.

The joint electricity tariff marks the beginning of the collaboration between 1KOMMA5° and Lumenaza, with further tariffs planned for the future.

»Our goal is to combine digitalization, expertise and scalability to give as many people as possible easy access to better and more affordable climate technologies. With Lumenaza, we have gained a partner with many years of experience in the digitalization of the electricity market.«

Philipp Schröder, Founder and CEO of 1KOMMA5°

Result

The electricity tariff launched by 1KOMMA5° directly integrates the THG quota, allowing electric vehicle owners to benefit from lower electricity bills immediately. Customers of 1KOMMA5° can save up to €300 per year on electricity costs through the THG quota credit. An electric vehicle consumes an average of 15 kWh per 100 kilometers. At an electricity price of 30 cents per kilowatt-hour, the savings from the THG quota correspond to a calculated driving distance of approximately 6,666 km. Lumenaza’s flexible billing software enables this savings benefit to be accurately reflected in electricity bills. In addition to the THG quota, other customer-specific bonuses can also be integrated into the electricity tariff.
